We have all heard of using bonds to offset the volatility of stocks. The ebs and flows of the market "should be" countered with bond behavior in your portfolio. Therefore, your investment should be able to withstand the ups and downs and sustain gradual but steady gowth (the staight line theory).
The last few years have shown us, as investors, there needs to be more to it and this theory is not complete. Many people who agree with the whole in this theory have chosen to invest in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) as a tool to further diversify. To those investors, we pose the question: "what individual holdings do you own?" The vast majority of REIT investors have no idea what properties are part of the REIT product. Even worse is the fact they have no say in which properties are held, sold or purchased! For some investors, this is just fine. DFWREG exists for those reading this who expect more for their money and wish to generate income AND growth for their portfolios or wish to find their new home.

It is human nature to fear what we do not understand but we should seek out answers instead of throwing in the towell. As a society, we stay within our comfort zone and this instinct pours into ever aspect of our lives. Investing is no exception! We are told to save for retirement at a very young age but are only introduced to minimal investment options like Savings Accounts, CDs, Mutual Funds, Stocks and maybe bonds. The reality is there are numerous viable investment options beyond the normal bank or brokerage account! We do, however, believe in diversification but in a true wholistic approach, not just what comes on your statement from Bank "X".
Interest, Dividends, Annuity Payments, Distributions...what about rental income as a source of cash flow?
